i wanted to do a post on the style i'm going for in my apartment and to share some of my inspiration photos. that way, when i ask you all for some input you know the direction i'm heading in and can take that into consideration. so really, this is for you...and not at all because i'm super excited about finally being able to decorate...

one of my all time favourite interiors
i've decided to call the style: eclectic chic with a touch of glamour. or this. but you get the idea. both the domino book of decorating and thom filicia's book say that you should define your style - pick a couple of words that define the look you want - so it makes it easier when you're out shopping and such. if something doesn't fit with your overall vision then maybe pass. it'll keep you on track.

so we're super clear here (and not because i have a bit of time on my hands) i've looked up a few definitions.
eclectic:
1. selecting what appears to be the best in various doctrines, methods, or styles
2. composed of elements drawn from various sources

chic:
1. elegant and stylish

glamourous:
1. having an air of allure, romance, and excitement
2. full of excitement, adventure, and unusual activity

i'm totally aware that just hearing the word "eclectic" makes one envision a mis-mash of different things thrown together haphazardly. this is not the look i want. if you've been following my blog you'll know i like a variety of styles. some ethnic. some french provincial pieces. some traditional. some modern (but not too modern)....yeah a bunch of styles. hence the introduction of the word chic. which to me means stylish, pulled together, and thought out. well tailored. i mean, when you see a chic person don't they just look impeccable...but stylish? even if the style isn't one you're into. and then, there's glamour. a little bit of bling. sparkly surfaces and elements. and of course, there always needs to be some natural wood elements and something unexpected (even if it's a little thing - like artwork in the kitchen or an unusual light fixture)...and there you have it. my interior style.

it's going to take a discerning eye to pull it together. and i really hope it doesn't turn into a jumbled up mishmash...you wouldn't let that happen would you?
*i started writing this post last week and by total coincidence i noticed that lauren of pure style home has a very similar post about the importance of defining your interior style. it's a great read - check it out!

I think the pictures are great to pattern you space. I cant wait for you to get started.
totally random - i have one of the throw pillows in the first pic!
You somehow managed to pick some of my favorite rooms! Maybe Eclectic Chic is also my style? Although I'm too much of a chicken to really jump in feet first for fear of just looking cluttered. Good luck!

Whoa. If this is your style, I can't wait to see what you do with your home!
i love all those images.
and as i told lauren, i think I am modern hollywood regency..with hints of everything else. with the hope that i dont look like a thousand trends threw up in my apt,
All the options look like winners. If you can find a great mix between all of them I will be heading to your place for lessons.
(when it's warm - does it ever get warm there? hee hee - a little humor at Canada's expense)
You and I love the same colors. I haven't figured out to how to make them work for me just yet so I'm going to keep en eye on you and take notes. :)
