besides having a black room or, at the very least a black wall, in my apartment-to-be i'll also have a wall with photos hung in a gallery style. i've got tons of pretty great photos (if i do say so myself) from my trips abroad, family and friends that would look great displayed in this manner. like these for example:
one of my very favourite photos i took in egypt
these 3 muslim ladies were crossing a bridge over the nile river...arms intertwined
my view of the sun setting as i floated on the nile in a felucca
at any rate, i love the seemingly randomness of a gallery style and the impact that it gives - much more unexpected than hanging everything in a traditional grid-like pattern.

and while the end result appears totally random and unintentional - it's actually, more times than not, the opposite. there are tons of tips out there on how to create your own gallery wall...because i guess instead of looking cool there is the possibility it could look sloppy. apartment therapy has some good guides - you can check one of them out by clicking here.

i would love to see more of your travel pics! places you've been and your thoughts...
i love the idea of displaying your pics - and oh yeah - on a black wall would be awesome!
I love these, I've always wanted a "wall of fame" of family pictures all in black and white over one wall. Lovely Egypt pictures too.
I love these too but I feel like I can't find the right frames. Im too anal to do them completely randomly but I don't want them all to match either. How do you plan on handling the frames?
Love this post!! I'm in dire need of decorating my apt. I've been thinking about picture frames because my walls are completely bare and you've really inspired me!
I love it!
You beat me to this! Had a post of walls all ready, I'll have to do it later. Thanks for the shout out and Great post on covering walls. I absoluely love the look.
Cheers,
Karen
Kay, I love the first picture. When i get super duper wealthy i'm going to need your assistance when it comes to decorating. okay? thx!
Great idea! I am putting together a display like this: http://howaboutorange.blogspot.com/2008/09/displaying-family-photos.html
I can't wait to get it up!
Your photos are great btw!

Ok, your place is going to be AMAZING! You have such a good eye for decorating and I see that spills over into your photography skills ... NICE :)
I love your pictures of Egypt. Oh did I tell you my sister works for Emirates now, so I'll be going to Dubai hopefully early next year. And hopefully be able to swing through Egypt in one trip. Can't wait.
i can't wait to have a room like that when i get a house. amazing.
Great pics. I am planning a gallery wall for our place too. I blogged about it a few months ago. I love the way that they look.
@lucky - i haven't been to too many places - certainly not half of the countries i want to visit. i will definitely share more of my pictures though :)
@daisy - thanks! egypt was/is amazing.
@mrs limestone - hmmm, well at first i was thinking of doing a variety of gold ornate-ish frames with the occasional black simple one thrown in but after seeing jesse's gallery wall (next post) i think that look might be too...mature for me. so i think i'm going to do something like the last image in this post - varying thicknesses of plain black frames with an occasional gold plain one thrown into the mix..that's the plan at least :)
@browngirlgumbo - your blog inspires me all the time! bought 2 sheath dresses yesterday :) and remembered your post from a few weeks ago. glad to return the favour.
@t - see! we do have some things decor-wise in common :)
@alkemie - thanks!
@faith - thanks! heck, you don't have to pay me - i'd do it for free! seriously :)
@lisa - please share photos when you're finished!
@davida - awww. thanks for the lovely compliment! i actually knew that when i travelled i wanted to be able to take "good" photos so i read books and taught myself a lot about lighting, composition and specifically how to capture good travel images. i know, i'm kinda a loser like that! but it worked.
@ebony intuition - thanks! can i come with you? i'm so serious. if you ever need a travel buddy - let me know! seriously!!!
@katelin - why not incorporate the look into your new place?
@tha hotness - please post pics when you have your wall done!
